Today was the third morning in a row that was rainy and damp and a bit chilly and the kids were getting tired of being cooped up in the house. So we decided to go on a little nature hike on our favorite hiking trail. Armed with our bug catchers, nets, back pack with water and snacks and a camera we headed out hoping to find some cool leaves, flowers, or bugs etc. for Trenton's Nature Journal. The big stuff we have to just take a picture of and put the picture in the journal, but we have been drying out flowers and leaves and Modge Podging them to the journal to preserve them. We did find some pretty impressive spider webs and took a picture of them for his journal.
Getting a closer look at the spider web
Ava found an Acorn
Inspecting what may be a snake hole....
Bee on a leaf
Nice TJ..a smile would be too much to ask for I guess
Some kind of weird Orange moss growing on a dead log.
Trenton spotted this big toad in the middle of the trail
And another one in the water
As we were leaving Trenton spotted this tiny little baby toad.
When we started looking closer at the baby toad we noticed that he only had ONE eye. Either he got in a fight with something or he was born that way. I don't think it hindered him much, he was pretty spunky.

Pretty cool pix Janell! Wow-that spider web is big! In the 2nd pic. -what is that blue thing and the pink and white polka dot thing?
Ava cracks me up with her hands in her pocket in the one pic.
That toad with only one eye -is that the one tj had on the fb pic? Poor thing.
Great pix -tj will have a lot of journaling to do and they both are learning so much! Is that the trail by the school? I'd like to go with them next time we're up.
mojk
i typed my name wrong -supposed to be mom-lol
The blue thing I think is TJ's bug catcher and the pink/white dot is Ava's boots.
The video of TJ on Facebook is the same one-eyed frog
The trail is just a community walking trail out in the country about 2 miles from our house..not by the school.
that web is humongous! is that the real size or are you using a special camera and lens? everyone always comments on your pix when i show them. what camera do you use?
mom
It was a huge web. It was proably about 2 1/2 feet long by 1 1/2 wide.
I use a camera kind of like yours. it has a macro zoom on it so when i take close up of things like the spider web i use the macro setting.
